Hansestadt Lübeck: the Queen of the Hanse

Time has come. After two magnificient years spent in Sweden, I see the sunset in my adventure in Stockholm (picture: sunset in Djurgården and Strandvägen). I will really keep Stockholm in my heart: I spent a fantastic time here, and I found many friends that I hope to keep also in the future. I also had here my first real research/work experience, in a magnific place, with special people.

Now it's time for a new adventure, and this time it really is. I've never been to Germany, nor I speak a single word of German (at least today, 30.05.2009). After waking up today, the first thing I saw from my window was the sun rising on the Krähenteich: a spectacular view for my first day in Lübeck.

There's not that much to say: I've always loved medieval history, and since I come from the countryside I like small-sized cities. Lübeck is very special from this point of view, it's a city whose heart lies in an island in the river Trave, it's a city with a long history, (capital of the Hanseatic League). Furthermore, it has a lovely architecture, and it's just a few miles away from the Baltic Sea and the city of Hamburg. The former door of the city, the Holstentor (picture below), has become a symbol for the city and the Schleswig-Holstein.

It has been a long time now since 30.05.2009, when I moved to Lübeck to begin my doctoral studies. My feelings haven't changed yet: I still love this medieval city, its architecture, its location, and (believe it or not!) its climate.

Whether kayaking around the city, walking along the lake, or whether just admiring the "Sieben Türme" view, I really feel at home here. My life changed a lot in the last years: I met special friends here, that in a way or another marked my long winding road. Thanks so far, Lübeck!
